The breakfast basket (delivered to the B&B room the night before, so you can wake up when you like) is always slightly different, but as long as Alex Gooch – one of Hay’s fabulous artisanal bakers – has freshly baked spiced buns, they’re in the basket. Usual fare also includes: locally made yoghurt, granola, fresh berries and fruit, Herefordshire single variety apple juice. Healthy, wholesome, and locally sourced.
…or more specifically, on the River Wye between Glasbury and Hay-on-Wye!
This short film was produced by Wye Valley Canoes, home to The River Cafe, which many of our guests have enjoyed, and filmed by Michael Sinclair who took the photos of Pottery Cottage. It perfectly captures that stretch of the River Wye, which is just a short walk away from the B&B through the fields. Don’t be put off by late autumn/early winter weather, it’s beautiful all year round.
“The Pottery Cottage was everything we could have wished for during our bank holiday road trip. The room was very good value and was one of the most stylish B&Bs we’ve ever stayed in. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom was super luxurious, kitted out with chunky dressing gowns and quality bubble bath & shower gel. Emma’s Breakfast Basket in the morning was delicious and well thought through – there was no pressure to be ready for breakfast at a fixed time, all the fresh fruit and bread was ready and waiting for us in the room. Emma and Oliver were excellent hosts, giving us great tip-offs on local places to eat and hikes to go on. We shall certainly be recommending this B&B to our friends and family.”

We seem to be popular with wedding guests, and this weekend we had delightful Fran and Duncan staying with us for just one night so they could go to a friend’s wedding at Pond Cottage on the Hardwicke Road near Hay. Lovely guests, hope they come back for longer!
We had an excellent stay at Pottery Cottage, we feel so lucky to have found such a perfect B&B. Emma was absolutely lovely from my initial email enquiry to us checking out. The room and en suite were incredibly cosy. The bed was so comfortable (probably the best night sleep we’ve had in ages) and the bath and shower were amazing too! And breakfast was delicious as well as healthy. My only complaint was that we weren’t staying for longer. Will definitely be going back to Pottery Cottage when we’re next in the area. Thanks so much Emma!
‘Emma was a brilliant host attentive yet unobtrusive. The cottage is beautiful as is the garden. The room and bathroom are large and decorated in a cool rustic boutique style. Location is great too we enjoy being on a cycle route to the Begwyns with easy access into town. 10/10 🙂 Oh dont forget breakfast a lovely basket of healthy treats!’

We’re somewhere between a B&B and a self-catering cottage. A small cottage (previously a pottery and long before that, a carpentry workshop) with a private entrance and breakfast delivered in a basket. We advertise it as a B&B, but if you would like a self-catering option – perhaps for a longer stay – please ask. There is a fridge, toaster, kettle and coffee press in the room but we can add a microwave on request. We can also recommend Love Patisserie in Hay who make very tasty food to take away, and Hay Deli sell really yummy curries, so you can eat (heat!) well without much preparation. Hay market on Thursdays has a fantastic cheese stall, and Stuart the Greengrocer will sort you out with all the best fruit and veg. Freshly baked bread can be dropped off daily at 9am. For basic supplies there is a shop a couple of minutes walk away from the cottage.
For booking enquiries, please email Emma on firstname.lastname@example.org or call 01497 822931.
